The stunning Blue Mountains of Australia are gearing up to welcome 8,000 runners from May 15-18 for the 17th edition of the HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB® – and this year, it’s a UTMB® World Series Major!

This prestigious new status recognizes the event as one of the premier trail running experiences on the global calendar. For athletes across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, it offers the unique opportunity to compete in a world-class event amidst the breathtaking scenery of a UNESCO World Heritage site, right outside Sydney. Think rugged cliffs, lush forests, and unforgettable views.

HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB® (Oceania) now stands alongside other major events like HOKA Val d’Aran by UTMB® (Europe), HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB® (Americas), and HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB® (Asia-Pacific).

The stakes are even higher in 2025! Runners at this Major event will earn double the Running Stones, boosting their chances for the UTMB World Series Finals lottery. Additionally, a significant 210 automatic qualification spots for the Finals are available for age-group champions and the top 10 men and women in the 100M, 100K, and 50K races.

Adding to the thrill this year is the introduction of the UTA Miler (100M), a brand-new and challenging distance joining the established UTA11 (11K), UTA22 (20K), UTA50 (50K), and UTA100 (100K). In addition to celebrating women’s achievements, HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB is implementing a series of dedicated initiatives to ensure the comfort, safety, and visibility of female participants:

  • Feminine hygiene products will be available at all aid stations;
  • Women-only toilets will be provided throughout the course;
  • Female-only change tents will be accessible at aid stations with drop bag services;
  • And each race will feature a designated space at the front of the start line for female athletes, guaranteeing equal representation from the outset.
